5 Things You Need To Know Today: April 15, 2016

Today's News Highlights

Get your quick news fix with “5 Things You Need to Know Today”, a daily feature that I’ll be posting on Indie88.com after the Morning Show. We’ll keep you up to date on the latest local and international stories buzzing today.

1. DVP/TTC CLOSURE

The DVP will be closed from the Gardiner to the 401 for Spring maintenance this weekend. If you think the TTC might be a better option…not so much. Line 1 will be closed from St George to Lawrence tomorrow and Sunday.

2. NEW RIDE SHARING APP

It looks like Uber might have competition, as another ride sharing app called LYFT wants to come to Toronto. If my calculations are correct. A Lyft from Liberty Village to Union Station would cost about $5. Right now an UberPool is $7.50 for the same route.

3. RIGHT TO DIE

New Right To Die legislation was introduced by the Feds yesterday. The new law allows physicians to choose whether or not they want to participate. For that reason, Catholic hospitals like St Mikes and St Joes here in Toronto both say they will not allow doctor assisted death within their walls.

4. HIGH PARK BURN

Don’t worry if you see smoke coming from High Park today. Its not a legalize weed rally, it’s time for the annual prescribed burn. From 2pm to 5pm some areas of High Park will be off limits.

5. JURASSIC PARK

Tomorrow it’s game 1 for the Raptors and Pacers at the ACC. Jurassic Park (Maple Leafs Square) will be broadcasting the games outside again this year. Game time 12:30pm.
