1. FINAL TRAGICALLY HIP SHOW

If you couldn’t get tickets for the Tragically Hip this summer. The CBC will be broadcasting their final show at the K Rock Centre in The Hips hometown of Kingston on August 20th. It is sure to be an emotional night since Gord Downie was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. The new Tragically Hip album Man Machine Poem is out today.


 

2. WEEKEND EVENTS/SUBWAY CLOSURE

There is lots to do this Fathers Day weekend in Toronto. NXNE takes over the Portlands with Ghostface Killah tonight and Father John Misty tomorrow. BBQ Fest is on at Woodbine Beach. Taste of Little Italy takes over College Street. Great Heart Festival is on at Trinity Bellwoods and the 28th annual Dragon Boat Festival is happening at Centre Island on Lake Ontario. There is also a weekend subway closure on line 1 from St Clair West to Downsview tomorrow and Sunday.


 

3. ANTI ISLAMAPHOBIA

Anti Islamaphobia ads in the city are getting a lot of attention. The city sponsored ads feature a white man telling a woman wearing a headscarf to go back from where she came. She responds with “Where…North York?”


 

4. DISTRACTED DRIVING

#PutThePhoneDown is trending. The Province released a startling PSA about the dangers of distracted driving.


 

5. I’M HAVING A BABY

Today was my last day waking up at the crack of dawn for a little while as I start maternity leave today! I’m terrified but truly can’t wait to meet my son. Thanks so much for reading the 5 Things daily. Talk to you in 2017. Much love, Candice.
