1. GUN VIOLENCE IN TORONTO

In the wake of major gun violence in Toronto. Mayor John Tory is calling on the federal and provincial government to help prevent guns from crossing the border. At this pace, it could be the worst year for gun deaths in Toronto in more than 10 years.


 

2. PAN AM WAY OVER BUDGET

The Pan Am Games last year were over budget. The Attorney General reported the number at nearly $350 million. Despite the wacky budget, $5 million in performance bonuses were still given out by the province.


 

3. FREE TRAGICALLY HIP SHOW

Mississauga wants to throw a free Tragically Hip show at Celebration Square. The city is willing to pay all the expenses for fans who were ripped off by scalpers so you can see The Hip one last time.


 

4. OTTAWA SINKHOLE

A giant sinkhole opened up in downtown Ottawa yesterday. It swallowed a minivan and forced all traffic to stop near Parliament Hill. The sinkhole spawned a bunch of memes.

5. ASSISTED DYING AMENDMENT

If the Senate gets their way, Canadians will no longer have to be near death to get medical help to end their lives. The Senate voted to amend Bill C-14 to delete the near death requirement so basically what that means is if you get something like Alzheimer’s…you can choose to end your life before the disease makes it impossible for you to make that call yourself. It’s unlikely the government will accept the amendment.
