5 Ways to Spend Valentine’s Day Solo

Because spending money on yourself is pretty fun

Regardless of your relationship status, most people find Valentine’s Day absolutely irritating, aside from being able to buy candy hearts at Bulk Barn. If you’re dreading Valentine’s Day this year, or maybe even thinking of boycotting it, have no fear! You have the choice to make this day pretty fun if you wanted to. Checkout this list for some ideas.

Checkout a Comedy Show

If you’re desperately in need of a laugh this Valentine’s Day, the Drake will be hosting Comedy Underground starting at 8 p.m.

Buy Yourself A Present

Buying presents for yourself should honestly be a common practice. This Valentine’s Day, practice self-love by buying that something that you’ve had your eye on for a while but felt guilty spending the money. Better yet, order yourself something to be delivered to your door on V-Day, whether it be flowers or one of those yummy fruit bouquets, because why not?

Watch a scary movie

Horror films have a way of making fun of conventions, i.e. Valentine’s Day. If you want to deviate from the norm this February 14, grab a blanket, a cup of tea and your favourite Valentine’s Day treat, and get scared. Not sure what to watch? Checkout our list of the top 10 horror films to watch on Valentine’s Day.

Start a Tradition

Adding a personal connection to Valentine’s Day allows you to attribute February 14 with something to look forward to, no matter what your relationship status happens to be on that day. Start a yearly tradition of sending your best friends candy grams, or cook yourself an elaborate dinner. Maybe every Valentine’s Day becomes a day where you try something new. Whatever it is, make it YOUR day.

Visit an Anti-Valentine’s Day Event

If you’re interested in attending a reading of the worst online dating conversations ever, you’re in luck. An event called OkStupid will be happening the night before and the night after Valentine’s Day this year, which is sure to turn a silly “holiday” into a bunch of laughs. Other anti-Valentine’s Day events happening in the city include the opportunity to smash a bunch of sh*t or take an intro to archery class at Battle Sports’ Anti-Valentine’s Day events.
