Required Weekly Listening

If you’re not the kind of person who enjoys listening to the holiday classics, this week on Best New Indie we rounded up some of the new music of the week that put a twist on Christmas tunes for your listening pleasure, with a couple of other goodies tossed in.

Sloan – “Kids Come Back Again at Christmas”

The boys are back with another two holiday jams! The pivotal Canadian indie band shared “Kids Come Back Again at Christmas” and “December 25” on YouTube, the former available above.

Nine Inch Nails – “Burning Bright”

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have returned to the delight of fans with a surprise LP called Not the Actual Events. The entire EP is available on iTunes, with the lead single “Burning Bright” above.

Ryan Adams – “To Be Without You”

Ryan Adams dropped another sneak peak of his upcoming album Prisoner, a heart-rending ballad “To Be Without You,” following previously released “To Be Without You.” Prisoner is due out February 17th.

Chance the Rapper and Jeremih – “I Shoulda Left You”

Blessings from Chance the Rapper and Jeremih, as the pair surprise-released a holiday mixtape called Merry Christmas Little Mama earlier this week. Listen to our favourite track from the EP, “I Shoulda Left You,” above.

Coeur de pirate – “Noël Sous les Tropiques”

There’s a pattern going on here, as Cœur de pirate also shared a collection of Christmas covers this week, Chansons Tristes Pour Noel (Sad Songs for Christmas). Take a listen to her cover of Tino Rossi’s “Noël Sous Les Tropiques.”
