Something must be in the water cooler over at Blink 182’s rehearsal space. The band’s former guitarist and frontman Tom DeLonge has had a history of sharing his alien conspiracies, and now his replacement in the band Matt Skiba has said some eerie shit about the disastrous Fyre Festival.
If you may remember, early reports coming out of Fyre Festival indicated that Blink 182, who originally we’re programmed to play, dropped out because the festival couldn’t meet their production needs. Now it appears there’s more to that story. Skiba is taking credit for shutting down the festival, claiming it’s all thanks to his abilities as a witch.
“I consider myself a pagan and a witch.” Skiba told NME. “With every inch of my energy I wanted Fyre not to happen. I put all the electricity and energy in my body against that thing happening.”
Skiba then went on to make an astute observation about Fyre Festival and luxury festivals like it:
“I’ve been to the Bahamas before and it’s so crass. You land in Nassau and the whole island is replete with beauty and culture, but there’s a lot of poverty. It is a largely black population then they build these places like Atlantis and The Cove that are walled off.
It’s classist and racist and then they decided to park a bunch of yachts with models to show off in front of those poor people, going down there with all your Ferraris and bullshit and yachts.”
Skiba touched on the band’s initial reasons for pulling out of the festival. “We pulled out for technical and logistical issues and the rest of it crumbled to shit because that’s what it was,” he said. “It was bullshit. I used my witchy ways and it seemed to work. I’ll take responsibility and everyone can blame me.”
