Blue Jays Issue Apology After MLB Calls For Ban on Cans

Police have identified beer can thrower

The Toronto Blue Jays are responding to an incident that occurred during Tuesday night’s Wild Card, after a fan threw a half-full beer can onto the field, narrowly avoiding Orioles’ outfielder Hyun Soo Kim at the bottom of the seventh inning.

In a post on Facebook, the Jays express their “extreme disappointment” in the event, sharing their “sincere apologies” to the Orioles players, managers and Major League Baseball.

The Jays promise “heightened security measures and alcohol policies”, but haven’t specified if that means a ban on beer cans will be coming to the Rogers Centre. Blue Jays spokesman Sebastian Gatica noted that banning cans “is an option. It is one of many things on the table.”

Meanwhile, Police have identified the man responsible for throwing the beer can and have asked that he turn himself in.
