With over 52 bands to choose from at this weekend’s TURF Festival, there really is something for everyone. Here are five artists on my must see list!

Avett Brothers

Friday @ 6:30

This North Carolina folkin’ band led by Seth and Scott Avett hit a creative high note with their 2012 album The Carpenter. Check out the Seth Avett/Jessica Lea Mayfield tribute album to the late great Elliott Smith.

Lucinda Williams

Saturday @ 4 :10

The matriarch of Alt Country has brought her love of Louisiana to the world with over a dozen superbly written records. Her longing for love and self respect simmers through in her standout 1988 tune Passionate Kisses.

St.Paul & the Broken Bones

Saturday @ 8:40

Soul and charisma flow from the body of bespecaled singer Paul Janeaway on this Birmingham, Alabama band’s debut album Half The City.

Will Butler

Sunday @ 8:10

While the Violent Femmes played last years Turf Fest, their spirt is alive and well this year through Arcade Fire’s multi instrumentalist Will Butler. His solo debut Policy oozes
with energy and a Femmes inspired vibe.

He’ll also be playing the TURF Bonus Club Series at Lee’s Palace Monday the 21st.
