Slim Shady's impact on the English language

One of the newest words added to the Oxford English Dictionary draws its origin back to Eminem’s 2000 release, The Marshall Mathers LP. The dictionary now officially recognizes “stan” as “An overzealous or obsessive fan of a particular celebrity.” To Eminem fans, “Stan” is recognized as the third single from his third studio album, which has sold well over 30 million copies worldwide.

Stan’s origin, via the Oxford Dictionary: “Early 21st century: probably with allusion to the 2000 song “Stan” by the American rapper Eminem, about an obsessed fan.”
