Explosion Shuts Down Parts of Toronto Financial District

Explosion reportedly caused by blown hydro vault

An explosion beneath Scotia Plaza at King Street West and Bay Street Monday afternoon led authorities to close down parts of Toronto’s financial district. Senior fire officials told CBC that the explosion was caused by a blown hydro vault.

Black smoke billowed from the building and loud crashing could be heard as many Torontonians began their end of day commute.

Toronto was under flood warning Monday as heavy rain poured down on the city. Officials have not indicated that the explosion was related to flooding conditions.

No injuries have been reported at this time.
