‘Game of Thrones’ Theorist Might Know Jon Snow’s First Name

Jon Snow knows nothing

Sunday’s finale of Game of Thrones was quite possibly the most satisfying episode in the series’ six season run. Story arcs dating back to the first few seasons have finally come full circle with the finale putting a neat bow on each of the story lines. Cersei sits on the Iron Throne (maybe not in the way she wanted to acquire it), the Starks have reclaimed Winterfell and Daenerys and Tyrion are on their way to Westeros.

The biggest reveal this week was the confirmation of Jon Snow’s heritage. The HBO show has all but confirmed that Jon is no ‘bastard,’ but the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, his parentage kept secret by Ned Stark for Jon’s own well-being.

A Reddit user, never lacking in fan-theories, claims that he has lip-read Jon’s true name when Lyanna whispered it to Ned on her literal death bed.

“I have rewatched the new TOJ sceneabout a dozen fifty times at least now, with captions and without. Lyanna starts by whispering ‘His name is’, and then what follows appears to be a three syllable word that appears to start with a J. I’m not a great lip-reader, but I’m fairly certain what she says is Jaehaerys.

Jaehaerys would be fairly conceivable since a previous Targaryen king donned the name. Ned Stark couldn’t keep a Targaryen-named child once the Targaryen family was banished out of Westeros, therefore shortening the name to simply ‘Jon.’

Sunday’s season six finale also broke ratings records with the finale garnering 800,000 more viewers than last season’s finale with 8.9 million viewers.

A grueling nine months is ahead of fans, but the wait will definitely be worth it with only a season (perhaps two) from the series’ end.
