WATCH: Hamilton Leithauser + Rostam’s Dads Steal the Spotlight in “A 1000 Times” Music Video

Music video shows band through the ages

Hamilton Leithauser of The Walkmen and Rostam Batmanglij (formerly) of Vampire Weekend have released a new music video for their joint project Hamilton Leithauser + Rostam. The duo is set to release their collaborative album I Had A Dream You Were Mine (2016) on September 23rd. The duo’s first single “A 1000 Times” now has a music video, which portrays the duo from childhood to old age, starring Hamilton and Rostam’s Dad’s who play their older selves.

The video which was directed by Rostam and Josh Goleman was inspired by a photo hanging in Hamilton’s apartment. Pitchfork reports that according to a press release the photo shows Hamilton as a teenager in black jeans and a white t-shirt surrounded by band members on a sunny day.

Rostam explains further in the press release,

“I think this photo is hung at my eye level because every time I’ve been to their apartment I’ve remembered seeing it. At some point something must have clicked and inspired me to come up with this video concept.”

Hamilton also weighed in,

“The first concert I ever saw in my life was my dad’s band ‘The Del Ray Desperados.’ My dad was (and still is) the lead singer, Don Zientara was (and still is) on guitar, and there’s no question that’s where I got the idea that maybe I could try it some day. When I heard the idea for this video, I knew my dad would pull it off.”
