Hi, Lana here. Sometimes you hear me on the airwaves here at Indie88. I have a question for you:
What’s your favourite children’s book?
That’s what I want to know throughout February. I’m helping bring A Good Book Drive to Toronto this February and aim to raise 1,000 books in 29 days and inspire reading and writing skills for the kids that need it most in the city.
Here’s the scoop: From February 1- 29, 2016, AGBD will be collecting books for The Children’s Book Bank in Regent Park, a registered charity that supports childhood literacy by providing free books and literacy support to children in low-income neighbourhoods in Toronto. They are a tremendous group of people doing great things in our community.
So, how does it work?
(Thanks for asking!)
1. Pick up a copy of your favourite children’s book, for kids 0-12 years old.
(Gently used books are also welcome, and by ‘gently used’ please ask yourself “Would I give this to a kid as a gift?”)
Here are the kinds of books The Children’s Book Bank is in need of.
2. Drop off your book at one of the A Good Book Box locations around the city, including right here at Indie88!
3. At the location, you can personalize your book donation with a special bookplate and share your own story of why that book is special.
By placing these stories within the cover of the books, the recipients from The Children’s Book Bank will learn about the impact of that book on someone else’s life.
Ta-da! You’re done!
A Good Book Drive will be sharing images and stories of the books donated in Toronto throughout the month of February at agoodbookdrive.com and feel free to share yours with #AGBDTO
Make sure you check out A Good Book Drive’s video in the player above! You may notice a couple familiar faces.
So… what book will you share?
Let me know in the comments!
