I Went to the Brand New Dakota Hayloft

Exploring a Prince Edward County gem

I had a chance to check out the brand new Dakota Hayloft in Prince Edward County on the weekend and it was AMAZING.

The Strumbellas played Friday night, and a barn is the perfect venue for this TO boot stompin’ band. The locals still call it the “Dance Barn”. The atmosphere, the stage, the price of drinks…all good. And it smelled like campfire. Everyone was dancing and singing along.

Got to see @thestrumbellas at @dakotahayloftpec on the wknd. So fun! #BarnBootStomp

Getting to and from the Hayloft is bit of a pain. You have to call a cab from the nearest town, and they charge you extra for the ride. The good news is that there are shuttle buses at the end of the night that will drop you off anywhere close. You have to pay for those too, but they are cheaper than a cab. The nearest hotel is Isaiah Tubbs, where we stayed. We got lucky and scored a jacuzzi suite. They have cottages and waterfront beach houses for rent right on the lake. You can also go camping if you like. Quinte Island is the closest – it’s actually walking distance from the barn. Sandbanks Provincial Park is very close too.

You should make a weekend out of it and check out the Dakota Hayloft. Mounties are playing June 26th. Also, check out The Strumbellas next time they are in TO. I’ve seen them 3 times now, and it’s always a really good time.
