Indie88 Premiere: Cartoon Lizard Share Single ‘Not Punk Not Raw’

Vancouver band releases new single and announces EP

Hailing from BC, Cartoon Lizard are getting ready to release their debut EP this April. To celebrate the release, the psychedelic pop band have released a brand new single entitled “Not Punk Not Raw.”

Cartoon Lizard’s members include Trevor Lang, Shilo Preshyon, Alex Maunders, Ritchie Hemphill, and Brennan Doyle. On stage, the fivesome turns into a foursome due to a yet to be diagnosed brain condition that prevents Hemphill from performing live, though he works diligently with the band behind the scenes.

According to Hemphill, “Not Punk Not Raw” explores the story of a character named Kate who refuses to be held down by societal restrictions.

“This character Kate just started blossoming in my head and how she didn’t want to be bogged down by archetypes or rigged lines of social standing. The theme evolves into a general openness of celebrating one self’s own sexual identity. Feeling free – the soaring sensation in feeling fully fleshed out.”

Following Cartoon Lizard’s April EP release, the group will kick off a Spring tour in BC and Alberta, and head across Canada during the summer. In the meantime, checkout “Not Punk Not Raw” below.
