Instagram Launching Live Video and Disappearing Stories

Instagram launches to new, but familiar, features

Go ahead, check your phone updates. We’ll wait. You’ll notice that Instagram has an update available, and it’s a big one.

Today the picture and video sharing app announced two new features coming soon: Instagram Live and Disappearing Pictures and Videos in Instagram Direct. While neither are necessarily new ideas, let’s take a look.

Similar to Facebook’s live feature, Instagram Live will let you broadcast yourself to your followers. Your live video will also be available to find via the “discover” tab. Once your live broadcast is over, it disappears. To access live videos, just swipe right from the camera feature and tap “Start Live Video”. You can broadcast yourself for up to an hour.

Taking a page from of Snapchat, Instagram’s second new feature is disappearing videos in direct messages. Using the same filters and features as Instagram Stories, this update lets you select individual groups to send to rather than all of your contacts. Once your friends have watched it, the picture or video disappears.
