John Mayer & the Grateful Dead Teaming Up: Dead & Company

A new band is on the horizon for some of music’s greats

The Grateful Dead has ceased to exist, — that is, the band finished up their Fare Thee Well tour in Chicago last month. But, according to guitarist Bob Weir, “those songs weren’t done with us.”

Weir and Dead bandmates Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart are joining John Mayer, Allman Brothers bassist Oteil Burbridge and Ratdog keyboardist Jeff Chimenti to create what’s been dubbed Dead & Company. Weir said Mayer’s enthusiasm to perform Dead songs “was the cherry” on top of this project. Mayer, who’s a massive Graetful Dead fan, shared his excitement to get to work with music that “cleanses your palate.”

The new group, who will be performing Dead songs, will be out on the road, debuting their unofficial tour at Madison Square Garden on Halloween. Until then, enjoy a classic Dead hit above.
