King West To Get Eight Story Restaurant Complex

Bakeries, Patios and Bars. Oh My!

King West and John is a hotbed for trendy food items and bars. Home to the city’s most popular Ice Cream shop (Sweet Jesus) and a plethora of other eateries that have filled your Instagram feeds, this neighbourhood is quickly running out of space for incoming shops. For that reason, the architects at Sweeny & Co. have developed a solution for the area’s limited real estate with an eight story restaurant complex at 86 John st.

The location has long been abandoned and for sale. You have probably walked by it many times without even giving it a second glance, but Blog TO recently noted that documents were submitted to the City of Toronto for that site.

The proposal dictates that the space will be used for a bakery, rooftop bar, top floor restaurant and retail spaces among other things. You may have noticed that it did not list residential anywhere in that mix. The building would be used solely for retail purposes.

This project is currently under the review stage, as the lot occupied by a historical building.
