In the hopes of preventing theft, some LCBO’s in the city are locking up certain bottles of alcohol.
This precaution comes after the Ontario Liquor company lost $16 million due to theft last year – or 0.29 per cent of its $5.57 billion in net sales. That averages out to $24,000 annually at each of its 654 stores, with Toronto stores being the dominating factor.
Last year, the LCBO tested out the box lock, known as BottleLox, at 10 different stores, but is now granting them to 130 locations. The new BottleLox are removed by staff while checking out, and will be putting on expensive bottles of alcohol and spirits.

The question remains: will it make any difference? There are enough videos online that make removing liquor locks look pretty easy.
