Lena Dunham Stops Using Twitter account after verbal abuse

"it wasn't a safe place for me"

Everyone’s favourite ‘tell-it-like-is’ tour de force is taking a hiatus from¬†Twitter¬†following some abusive comments online. For the time being, Dunham will have people from her team keep her social media accounts updated, instead of doing it herself.

In the podcast Re/code Decode, the Girls co-creator and star explained to Kara Swisher, “It wasn’t a graphic picture. I was wearing men’s boxers, and it turned into the most rabid, disgusting debate about women’s bodies, and my Instagram page was somehow the hub for misogynists for the afternoon.”

Lena also elaborates, “I really appreciate that anybody follows me at all, and so I didn’t want to cut off my relationship to it completely, but [Twitter] really, truly wasn’t a safe space for me.”
