Listen: James Murphy Makes Music from Tennis Matches

The DFA records co-creator collaborates with IBM to release music from tennis data

Former LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy’s latest interesting project brings together music and tennis. Murphy is releasing 12 remixes from computer algorithms that synthesized tennis players’ moves with the IBM cloud.

Remixes Made With Tennis Data combines musical elements and the sounds of tennis matches to create edgy electronic tunes. One of the tracks, “Match #187”, has a building chorus of audience “aahs” and a trembling base line, creating a hypnotic, attention-grabbing sound.
