Sia released the single “Alive” today, which was co-written by Tobias Jesso Jr., and originally written for/with Adele. According to Billboard, Adele rejected the track last minute so Sia took it for her own album, This is Acting, which has yet to be given have a release date. In an interview with NME, Sia explains that the album is a mosaic of songs that are actually written for other artists.
“I’m calling it ‘This Is Acting’ because they are songs I was writing for other people, so I didn’t go in thinking ‘this is something I would say’. It’s more like play-acting. It’s fun.”
The track itself is pretty extraordinary through Sia’s raw and powerful pipes, and even more interesting that it’s supposed to be telling Adele’s story. It fits cohesively into the album concept. You can listen to the full track above.
