Stephen Malkmus, former frontman for the 90’s band Pavement, gets it.
I finally get Nirvana
— Stephen malkmus (@dronecoma) April 7, 2015
Malkmus describes Nirvana as “pop music with a metal twist” and a mix of Guns N’ Roses and The Pixies with a frontman that “has tantrums sometimes”.
Shortly after this epiphany, Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks performed Nirvana’s “Come As You Are” at the 5th Annual Quiet Music Festival in Portland. Keyboardist Mike Clark describes the set as “intimate, unusual, and idiosyncratic,” which includes experimental covers of Minutemen, Pink Floyd and The Carpenters.
The performance was recorded by Seth Lorinczi using a vintage 2-track 1/4” tape deck and is available for purchase.
