Lorde sends cupcakes & note to bullied New Zealand X Factor contestant

Is Lorde the celebrity vigilante?

On a live episode of New Zealand’s X Factor last Saturday, contestant Joe Irvine was ruthlessly criticized after his performance, getting called “disgusting” and “creepy” by judges Natalia Kills and her husband Willy Moon (clip below).

If you needed another reason to love Lorde, the NZ-born pop star sent Irvine a box of cupcakes that spelled out “Keep Being Joe” accompanied by a heartfelt handwritten note.

Kills and Moon have since been sacked from the show after the live episode aired over the weekend. MediaWorks’ chief executive Mark Weldon said:

“While the judges on X Factor are expected to provide critiques of the performances, we will not tolerate such destructive tirades from any of the judges,” he said. “Contestants put their all into this competition and they should expect to receive feedback and criticism that is professional and constructive. We no longer have confidence that Kills and Moon are the right people to perform the role of X Factor judges and they will leave the show, effective immediately.”

You can watch Kills and Moon ream out the 25-year-old contestant below.

And a big shout out to judge Mel Blatt for sticking up for Joe!
