‘Loud on Planet X’ Video Game Ft. Metric, July Talk And More Announces Release Date

New indie game uses rock powers of local indie rock stars

Created by Toronto studio, Pop Sandbox, a new indie video game called LOUD on Planet X has been announced, with a star-studded cast of indie-rockers and we’re so excited to be a part of it.

Playing with the likes of Tegan and Sara, Metric, F*cked Up, METZ, Purity Ring, Austra, Lights, July Talk, Shad, and Cadence Weapon, players use said musicians live techniques to blast alien enemies. Be sure to keep an eye out for Indie88’s cameo. The game will be available for PlayStation®Network (PS4™) + Steam (Mac/PC) on April 19th and on iOS and select android devices April 21st.

Additional artists are to be announced April 18th. A press release explains how the gameplay works:

Combining rhythm tap and tower defense style gaming, ‘LOUD on Planet X’ allows you to use an assortment of power-ups (amps/strobe lights/fog machines/bouncers/etc.) to help your artist defend their stage, as you tap along to the music. ‘LOUD on Planet X’ is an exciting new indie alternative to ‘Rock Band’ or ‘Guitar Hero’ with a splash of ‘Plants vs. Zombies’ – a new hybrid of rhythm game and classic shooter with tower defense elements.

Jonah Falco and Mike Haliechuk of F*cked Up, Brendan Canning and Justin Peroff of Broken Social Scene and Harrison created three additional scores for the game, which will be available soon via SoundCLoud. Check out the trailer for the video above.
