Making a Murderer Season Two Details Released

The second season of the Netflix phenomenon Making a Murderer was confirmed in July 2016, although an exact premiere date has yet to be revealed. However, details were recently released surrounding the second run of the show by Netflix’s vice president for original content, Cindy Holland.

According to Holland, the show’s second season will be a continuation of the first.

“The story is still ongoing, so you will see new episodes coming sometime this year as this story continues to unfold,” Holland told USA Today. “We don’t know when for sure new episodes will be coming.”

Holland also noted that the show’s executive producers, Moira Demos and Laura Ricciardi, are currently filming the new season in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin.

“Laura and Moira are (in Manitowoc) shooting regularly and working on what the right story is to tell in the next set, so we’re deferring to them on when it will be ready. Very few people inside of Netflix actually know the details of what we’re getting because we’re wanting to keep it really under wraps and it is an ongoing case so we’re trying to be sensitive to that.”

Making A Murderer, along with the popular Serial podcast, opened new doors for the true crime genre. At one point the show easily became Netflix’s most highly consumed series, while discussions flooded the internet surrounding Steven Avery and his alleged involvement in the crime. It also raised questions regarding how much a documentary should be able to influence someone’s conviction — what happens when an entire viewership decides that you’re either guilty or not guilty?

Regardless, the second season of Making A Murderer is among the most highly anticipated television series to air this coming year.
