Man’s Ear Bitten Off at Toronto Eagles of Death Metal Show

Band was playing at the Opera House

A man’s ear was bitten off at an Eagles of Death Metal show this weekend at the Opera House.

According to, an altercation broke out between two men which ended after one man biting part of the other’s ear off during the Canadian Music Week shocase. News broke when EODM drummer posted a (now deleted) Facebook status that a man “got his ear bitten off,” at the show. He added “[there’s a] first time for everything I guess!”

The Opera House’s general manager Athena Ellinas-Towers told “I didn’t actually believe it when someone came up to me and told me what happened.” She said in a statement:

“I didn’t witness anything, but there was a confrontation between two individuals, The one gentleman that instigated the whole thing was arrested and charged. I’m not sure of the charges; I just saw him being arrested. The police haven’t followed up with me yet. We called them because this is a serious offence.”

A nursing student, Grace Hughes who was attending the show saw the man bleeding and holding his ear after the fight. “Instinctively I knew this was not a simple wound,” she said. She grabbed napkins and a cup of ice from the bartender and told her friend Catherine Dupuis to pick up the ear. Dupuis explained:

“The security guy I had informed was just about to pick it off the floor with napkins as I bent down to pick it up myself. I had him hand the piece of ear over to me so as to get it on ice right away. I held onto the cup for safekeeping until the paramedics arrived. Grace continued to apply ice and pressure as the guy was bleeding out a lot. She had blood all down her arm and had to change out the ice pack several times.”

A photographer posted this extremely gory and NSFW photo of the ear on the ground to Instagram. Check it out here at your own discretion.

The assailant was captured and has been charged with aggravated assault.
