The makers behind the Xbox consoles, Microsoft has taken a huge leap in cross-platform gaming. The tech giant is allowing and encouraging other gaming platforms to join up their online networks for players.
This is something that has been long-wished in the gaming community: being able to play online with gamers regardless of what console they have. Currently only Xbox One users can play on Microsoft Live, PS4 users on Playstation Network and PC gamers separately online.
According to The Verge, Microsoft wants this change to happen soon and have even began developing Rocket League as the first cross-network game, calling an “open invitation for other networks to participate as well.”
This would make a big impact on the gaming community, who often make their decision on buying a console on what their friend group are also buying — rather than what the console actually offers.
