Everyone knows music festivals are a good time, but this takes it to a whole new, weird level.
Montebello Rockfest in western Quebec found out recently that, in June 2014, an “adult film” was shot on their grounds without them knowing.
President/founder Alex Martel said that the production company’s method and the nature of the movie itself is upsetting for the festival, especially considering Montebello Rockfest has faced criticism in the past for its “chaotic” site.
Filmmakers and main actress Pamela Kayne also recruited 12 festival attendees to participate in the adult film.
The movie makers defended themselves using the totally expected defence: it was a movie made between consenting adults who knew what they were doing. The production company, AD4X Videos, has done this before, too: they tried a similar stunt at the Festival Western de Saint-Tite.
André de la Seine, AD4X’s prez, also told Radio-Canada (The French-speaking CBC Radio) that they didn’t need to get Rockfest organizers’ permission because they shot the movie on private land.
Organizers said that 150 festival employees will be on the lookout for similar antics for this year’s Rockfest, which is happening from June 18 – 20, but admit it’ll be pretty difficult to monitor 5,000 tents.
Alex Martel said he called a lawyer because Kayne and company’s flick mentions Rockfest by name.
All we can say is …weird.
