Mattel made a fierce marketing decision this month in their new Barbie ad. For the first time, the Barbie commercial features a boy.

“Moschino Barbie is so fierce!” the boy says before adorning his doll with a designer handbag. The ad also features two girls playing with the new limited edition Barbie that sold out in under an hour of hitting the shelves.
This commercial is the latest in strides towards eliminating gender from toy shopping, following Target’s decision to remove all boy/girl labels and simply categorize everything as “kids”.
