NXNE takes over Toronto this coming week!

Staring Monday, the annual city-wide festival launches its curator series, hosting shows at venues around the city, curated by some of Toronto’s most prominent musicians. Friday night will see the Port Lands festival area open up, where all headlining acts will play over the course of the weekend.

Monday, June 19

VISSIA | Dakota Tavern

Singer-songwriter VISSIA plays an all-Albertan showcase curated by Rural Alberta Advantage at the Dakota Tavern.

 

Blue Sky Miners | Baby G

It’s no surprise that this Toronto folk collective is playing this showcase curated by Broken Social Scene’s Brendan Canning at the Baby G.

 

Tuesday, June 20

Tush | Baby G

Dance the night away with Tush along side Bueller, Regina Gently, Emperor X at this show curated by July Talk’s Leah Fay.

 

Wednesday, June 21

Above Top Secret | Baby G

Your boy Shad is bringing experimental electro-rap group Above Top Secret to the Baby G.

 

New Love | The Garrison

This showcase of great Hamilton bands at the Dirty Nil’s curated Garrison event includes spirited rock group New Love.

 

Olivia and the Creepy Crawlies | The Garrison

Moe Burg (The Pursuit of Happiness) is a big fan of Toronto’s Olivia and the Creepy Crawlies, and you should be too. Check them out at the Garrison Thursday night.

Cold Specks | Port Lands | Canal Stage

Saturday, June 24

Kaytranada | Port Lands | Skyline Stage

Polaris Prize-winning producer/DJ Kaytranada is set to take the Skyline stage Saturday night, playing through hits from his critically acclaimed album 99.9%.

 

Bleachers | Port Lands | Skyline Stage

Jack Antonoff, otherwise known as his stage name Bleachers has had a busy year. Working with artists like Sia, Grimes, Taylor Swift, St. Lucia, and most recently, Lorde, he’s also found the time to put out a record, called Gone Now.

 

K.I.D. | Port Lands | Skyline Stage

A rapidly growing buzz surrounding this Mississauga band led to opening slots with bands like July Talk, Bleachers, The Beaches, and Fidlar. This year, they released their second EP entitled Poster Child. Catch them at 4:40 at the Skyline Stage.


 

Cave Boy | Port Lands | Canal Stage

This Montreal trio is delivering some of Canada’s best blissful, Beach House-inspired dream pop. Don’t miss them at 3:00 PM on the Canal Stage at the Port Lands.

 

Sunday, June 25

River Tiber | Port Lands | Skyline Stage

River Tiber is one of Toronto’s most prominent DJs. The one man band has been quickly gaining notoriety in the city, putting him in place to work with some of the industry’s best including BADBADNOTGOOD, Pusha T and Daniel Caesar.

 

Yukon Blonde | Port Lands | Canal Stage

Vancouver’s Yukon Blonde might be the most fun band you will see all week. They’re last album On Blonde is a collection of upbeat, spirited anthems. Catch them Sunday night at the Port Lands Canal Stage.

 

Passion Pit | Port Lands | Skyline Stage

Michael Angelakos of Passion Pit has made it his mission to break the stigma against sufferers of Mental Illness. The band’s recent album Tremendous Sea of Love is very much a testament to his commitment. Catch this tremendous electronic band at the Port Lands Sunday night where they wrap up NXNE.
