Back in Ontario Place’s glory days, the amusement park opened the world’s first permanent IMAX theatre called the Cinesphere. While the glorious theater hasn’t been used since 2012, you’ll soon be able to once again step inside and experience film full IMAX.
The Ontario Place Cinesphere is reopening for the Toronto Independent Film Festival as part of their Cinematheque programme this year. The program aims to celebrate “gems from the history of Canadian and international cinema”.

Reopening night for the Cinesphere will be a showing of Graeme Ferguson’s film North of Superior, which also happened to be the first film that screened there in 1971. The theatre will run from September 7th through 17th with multiple screenings over the 10 day film festival.
TIFF will release their daily schedule August 22nd.
