The Pixies have shared plans to release their sophomore album, Head Carrier this fall.
This will be the first record with new bass player Paz Lenchantin, who will be featured on the 12-track record of psychedelic, surf-rock inspired tunes. Recorded in London’s Rak Studios with producer Tom Dalgety (Royal Blood, Killing Joke), this will be the first time since the early nineties that the band has spent an amass of time in the studio writing, rather than just on the road in between touring.
In a press release, drummer, David Lovering described the new process:
“This was a wonderful luxury, for us to have the time to be able to really work these new songs out. By the time we started recording, we all knew the songs backwards and forwards, so it took half as long for us to make this album as it did to make ‘Indie Cindy.’ And it was great working with Tom…he started with us in pre-production and played a big part in keeping us focused on making the best music we could.”
Today the band has shared a first taste of what’s to come, a rockabilly tune called “Um Chagga Lagga”. Take a listen below:

The band will support the new record with a world tour, though no Toronto dates have yet been added. Head Carrier is due out September 30th via Pixiesmusic/Play It Again Sam.
