Pixies Pen Love Letter to Kim Deal in New Song

From one bassist to another

The Pixies new album Head Carrier is set to be released in September of this year. In a BBC 6 Music Interview Frank Black discussed the upcoming record and some of the songs on it. In particular he discussed a song sung by their new bassist Paz Lenchantin.

You can listen to the full interview below:

The song is said to be a “thank you” to their old bassist Kim Deal. Pitchfork reports that in the interview Black explains how he approached Lenchantin to sing on a track and she said, “You have to write about Kim Deal … like a thank-you letter.” Her presence is continuously felt within the band as she was their bassist from 1986 to their first break up in 1993. Kim Deal reunited with the Pixies back in 2004 before decided to leave in 2013.

The album, which is their first full length album since Trompe Le Monde (1991), is the follow up to their three EP project, Indie Cindy.

Head Carrier comes out Sept. 30.
