Porter Airlines flight avoids mid-air collision with suspected drone

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is investigating a near mid-air collision east of Toronto between a Porter Airlines flight and an object.

Two flight attendants suffered minor injuries after pilots performed an “evasive maneuver” to avoid the object, which is suspected to be a drone.

“The pilots noticed an object in the distance,” Porter spokesperson Brad Cicero said Monday. “As they approached the object, they realized it was very close to their flight path and decided to take appropriate evasive action. There was no contact between the aircraft and object.

“The pilots’ initial assessment was that it looked like a balloon. After debriefing, there is potential that the object was a drone.”
