PUP Wins 2017 SOCAN Emerging Songwriting Prize

'DVP' voted winner of the 12th annual prize

After a month-long voting session Canadian music fans have selected PUP as the 2017 SOCAN Emerging Songwriting Award winner.

This years’ roster of nominees included the likes of Kaytranada, River Tiber, and Charlotte Day Wilson among seven other artists selected by a panel of music industry experts. Ultimately, local punk rock group PUP took home the  $10,000 prize for their song “DVP,” a reference to Toronto’s own Don Valley Parkway, written by band members Stefan Babcock, Nestor Chumak, Zachary Mykula, and Steven Sladkowski.

Following the announcement this morning, frontman Stephan Babcock expressed his gratitude, “Big thanks to our fans and everyone who voted or participated in this process at all. It is nice to be recognized for hard work alongside the other incredible nominees, and we all appreciate your support! And of course, thanks to SOCAN for their continued support as advocates, educators and, above all, music lovers.”
