Real estate company carry on Honest Ed’s turkey giveaway tradition

While Honest Ed’s prepares to shutter its operations at the end of the year, one Toronto real estate company did its part to keep one of the discount store’s holiday traditions alive over the weekend.

Freeman Real Estate handed out free Christmas turkeys Sunday, continuing the generous tradition that Honest Ed’s oversaw for nearly 30 years. The nearby company, along with the Spirit of Math school, purchased 504 turkeys for the giveaway.

“We’re carrying on the tradition because there’s a vacuum,” said Elden Freeman, the president of Freeman Real Estate. “It was just the right thing to do.”

The real estate and brokerage company reportedly expressed interest in helping carry on the tradition next year.
