Record Store Day to Become a Weekly Event

“Vinyl Tuesdays” are the next big thing for record-lovers

Since 2007, thousands of independently-owned record stores have participated in the twice-a-year event known as Record Store Day. Soon, the occasion will come around every week.

On “Vinyl Tuesdays” participating record stores will follow the original Record Store Day model, featuring special edition releases and reissues, albums dropped on vinyl before they’re out on digital, and more.

Some in the industry have complained that the hyper-focused high demand of vinyls actually hurts record companies, but the day has always been a hub for the indie music community: deals on favourite albums and exclusive Record Store Day releases can really bring people together.

It’s not clear exactly when “Vinyl Tuesdays” will roll out, but The American Association of Independent Music has said it plans on the change giving “music fans more compelling reasons to support this important part of the music business community.”
