Report: Mayor Tory to endorse road tolls on Gardiner, DVP

The cost of transportation in Toronto is climbing

Toronto mayor John Tory is set to endorse plans to introduce road tolls on the Gardiner Expressway and Don Valley Parkway, according to a Toronto Star report.

The report indicates that the tolls could be introduced in an effort to raise $300 billion annually to pump back into transportation projects. A Tory spokesperson declined comment Wednesday.

While details are unclear at this time, the Star cited a 2015 city staff report that proposed a toll on a single trip of either expressway costing drivers between $1.25 and $3.25.

Whether that’s an accurate measuring stick remains to be seen. Whatever the case, it’s getting more expensive to get around Toronto.

The Toronto Transit Commission board approved a 10-cent single-fare hike for 2017 on Monday.
