Snapchat Rebrands, Announces New Recordable Sunglass Device

Snap Inc. presents "Spectacles"

Facebook is so 2009.

Snapchat’s new name isn’t the only exciting thing the brand’s advertising. “Snap Inc.” has officially announced it’s new branding, along with a new line of sunglass-based recording devices.

“Spectacles” are a pair of funky sunglasses with a built-in wireless video camera. Like the phone app, the glasses allow you to take up to 10 seconds of high definition quality videos, but now from the wearer’s perspective. The footage can be uploaded automatically to the popular image-sharing app, via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.

Snap Inc. made the announcement this week, via a bright and colourful video showcasing a group of kids using their Spectacles to record skateboarding tricks.

The company posted a statement on their new website, saying

“We’ve created one of the smallest wireless video cameras in the world. Capable of taking a day’s worth of Snaps on a single charge, and we integrated it seamlessly into a fun pair of sunglasses.”

“Imagine one of your favourite memories. What if you could go back and see that memory the way you experienced it?”

The glasses, will come in one size on a limited basis, in three colours: coral, teal and black. They will be available in the U.S. this fall, but no release date has been announced. They will cost approximately $130.00
