Soundgarden Frontman Chris Cornell Dies Aged 52

Cornell played a show with Soundgarden Wednesday night.

Chris Cornell has died at the age of 52, representatives for the Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman have confirmed.

Cornell’s death was described as “sudden and unexpected” by Brian Bumbery, a representative. Soundgarden played a show in Detroit Wednesday night. A medical examiner confirmed Thursday afternoon that Cornell died by suicide.

With Soundgarden, Cornell’s rangy vocal style helped lay the foundation for the grunge and alternative sounds that defined the 90s. The band released six albums over the years. Cornell joined Audioslave in 2001, with members of Rage Against The Machine.

Cornell was born on 20 July, 1964.
