Our Favourite Moments from Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope

Terry Fox Marathon of Hope

The Terry Fox Run is happening at more than 200 locations in Ontario on Sunday. You can literally roll out of bed Sunday morning and find a run/walk near you by visiting terryfox.org. You don’t even need to sign up, just show up. Terry Fox inspired people across the country in 1980 when he ran across Canada hoping to raise a million dollars for cancer research after losing his leg to bone cancer.

Here are a few of The Morning After’s favourite moments from Terry Fox’s incredible Marathon of Hope in 1980.

1. This clip brings Candice to tears. 10 year old Greg Scott waited 3 hours in the scorching summer heat to meet his hero in Hamilton. Greg, also lost his leg to bone cancer. Terry spent a few days with Greg playing basketball and swimming in the lake.

2. Being a big Leafs fan this is Matt’s favourite because NHL Star Daryl Sittler presented Fox with an all star jersey. 10,000 people gathered at Nathan Phillips Square to welcome Terry.

3. In this clip you truly learn what an incredible athlete Terry is. ~Brian.

Brian and Candice will be at Wilket Creek Park Sunday morning with Premier Kathleen Wynne to kick off this year’s Terry Fox Run, we hope to see you there! For more info visit terryfox.org.
