The Best Christmas Movie Songs

Get in the christmas spirit with these soundtrack standouts

Everyone’s got a favourite Christmas movie but have you ever thought about the Christmas song gold that comes from them? Some are the mainstay classics, others are written just for the film, and some were are sung by the actors to make it an extra special movie moment. Here are the best Christmas movie songs.

Zooey Deschanel and Leon Redbone – “Baby It’s Cold Outside” from Elf

Remember when Zooey Deschanel was a blonde? In Elf, she is a quirky sales associate who falls in love with Will Ferrell, and elf. In the movie, Ferrell sings this song with her. On the soundtrack they replaced him with Leon Redbone.

Brenda Lee – “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” from Home Alone

My favourite moment in Home Alone is the scene where Kevin fools the burglars with cardboard guests enjoying a holiday party in the living room. This song playing in the background.

Danny Elfman – “Kidnap the Sandy Claws” from The Nightmare Before Christmas

Paul Reubans (Peewee Herman) and SCTV alum/Home Alone star Catherine O’Hara lend their voices to this one from The Nightmare Before Christmas.

“Auld Lang Syne” from It’s A Wonderful Life

A classic. Nothing needs to be said about this one.

The Beatles – “All You Need Is Love” from Love Actually

The whole soundtrack for Love Actually is awesome. Here are a couple of my fave tracks from that film. Fun fact: Rick from Walking Dead is the guy in love with Keira Knightley’s character. He is so gentle in this movie

Mariah Carey – “All I Want for Christmas Is You” from Love Actually

Faith Hill – “Where Are You, Christmas?” from The Grinch

This was the obvious standout on How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

The Harry Simeone Choir – “Do You Hear What I Hear?” from Gremlins

This song scared the crap out of me in Gremlins. It’s that scene where the wet gremlins newly-hatched wreak havoc on the house. This song keeps playing and skipping. Still gives me chills.

Clarence Carter – “Back Door Santa” from Jingle All the Way

Remember the Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sinbad Christmas movie, Jingle All the Way? This naughty track was on it.

Loreena Mckennitt – “The Bells of Christmas” from The Santa Clause

Loreena Mckennitt performed this one for the Tim Allen movie, The Santa Clause, which admittedly makes me cry every year.

Bing Crosby – “It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas” from A Christmas Story

It’s classic and in a lot of Christmas movies, but my favourite is A Christmas Story.
