The Shins Will Release New Music in 2016

Pivotal indie band makes promise to fans for new music

Merry Holidays, friends!

It’s been nearly four years since James Mercer and his regrouped Shins released 2012’s Port of Morrow. And with Mercer being immersed in Broken Bells with co-collaborator Danger Mouse since then, the future was unclear for the pivotal New Mexico band.

Though the future is now looking bright as new Shins music has been promised to come our way in 2016. The band’s label, Columbia sent out an email to fans wishing them “Happy Holidays from The Shins,” and briefly stating “New year, new music!”

In the spirit of the season, Mercer was also given good news as Consequence of Sound reports. According to a playlist curation organization called PlayNetwork, the band’s Paul McCartney cover of “Wonderful Christmastime” has beaten out Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You” in plays for the holiday season.

“Well, we’ve always been super-popular on the Island of Misfit Toys so it was just a matter of time before the human world embraced our incredible Christmas spirit!”
