Following a couple weeks of teases and some web-sleuthing by fans, The xx have finally unveiled details of their new record and released the first single.
The London-based band dropped “On Hold” early Thursday morning. The new album I See You is set for a January 13 release via Young Turks. “On Hold” showcases the band’s signature electronic indie pop sound and features a sampling of Hall and Oates’ 1981 hit-single “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do).”
On a related note, The xx will perform on Saturday Night Live November 19 with Kristen Wiig picking up hosting duties.
Here’s a look at the artwork from I See You, the band’s first release since 2012’s Coexist.
After many years, close together, far apart, great highs, deep lows, heartache and healing, we are so happy to let you know we are releasing our 3rd album 'I See You' on January 13th 2017. ⠀ ⠀ We realise these are uncertain times and we hope the joy and love we found making the record will find its way out into the world, in however small a way. ⠀ ⠀ Our first single ‘On Hold’ is available now. ⠀ Excited to see you all very soon. ⠀ xx The xx
