Toronto City Councillor Wants Trump Tower Name Changed

A Toronto City Councillor urges owners of Trump Tower to change the building's name in wake of Donald Trump's controversial remarks.

In case you don’t follow the absolute circus that is the American presidential election, Republican front-runner Donald Trump just called for a “total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States.” It’s far from the first xenophobic comment Trump has made along his campaign trail, but it was the tipping point for Toronto City Councillor Josh Matlow.

In an interview with CP24, Matlow elaborated his position by stating “We live in the most diverse and multicultural city in the world, or at least one of them, and I just think now that we know who Donald Trump is and we know what kind of policies he is proposing, it is time for us to disassociate ourselves but ultimately it will be up to the owners of the building to make their choice.”

The owner in this case is actually not Donald Trump, but rather Talon International Development Inc., a Toronto based real estate company. The Trump Organization merely operates the hotel. According to Talon, “Donald Trump’s opinions as a private citizen in no way reflect the position of the company’s views or those of its other investors and owners.”

So far Councillor Matlow has only written a letter requesting the name change, but the matter has not been discussed in council.

I still think Larry David said it best:
