Treat of the Week: Pineapple Fried Rice

Toronto's latest food craze

First of all, if you haven’t been to Miss Thing’s, an ultra-hip Parkdale cocktail bar and grille known for vibrant decor and a cacophony of cool, tiki-fied concoctions—complete with kitsch-as-hell vessels and garnishes—then you have been seriously missing out.

For starters, Chef Jasper Wu’s contemporary take on classic Pan Asian and Hawaiian cuisine has made his kitchen one of the most popular in the city—and a hotspot among visitors. Treat-seekers should pay a visit, if anything, to revel in the smooth vibes and chill atmosphere. It truly is a gnarly place to spend an evening.

But most important: the food. Miss Thing’s Pineapple Fried Rice might very well be the dish of the summer—a quick sweep of the restaurant’s various social media accounts reveal a ton of stylized shots of this feature entree. And for good reason: served in a flavourful (and photogenic) halved pineapple, it boasts a slew of distinctive ingredients including brown rice, toasted cashews and sambal mayo with a choice of braised pork belly or sweet and sour jackfruit. Make no mistake, this Polynesian plate is to die for.
