Violent Femmes Returning with New LP ‘We Can Do Anything’

On and off again Milwaukee group set to release new LP

It’s been over 15 years since the quintessential Milwaukee troupe Violent Femmes released a full record, after 2000’s Freak Magnet.

The band initially marked their return earlier this year on Record Store Day with the release of their Happy New Year EP. As Rolling Stone reports, the band is getting ready to release a new full-record next year, called We Can Do Anything.

Frontman Gordon Gano drew inspiration from a “trove of old cassette demos and journals,” to write a number of songs on the new album. Additional writing was supplied by Sam Hollander, Dave Katz and Kevin Griffin (Better Than Ezra) and Gano’s sister and folk artist Cynthia Gayneau.

Recorded while on tour during the summer, Violent Femmes took recording on the road, stopping in on studios in Nashville, L.A., Brooklyn, Milwaukee and Denver. Jeff Hamilton of Horns of Dilemma, Violent Femmes backing bands produced the album, with mixing by John Agnello (Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth, Kurt Vile).
