Watch: Kalle Mattson recreates his 35 favorite record covers in “Avalanche”

Critically acclaimed folk artist is carving out his name in folk history

Kalle Mattson is a Sault Ste. Marie-born, Ottawa-based folk artist that has been flying pretty high since the release of his 2014 album Someday, The Moon Will Be Gold .

Garnering him critical acclaim and a nod from the Polaris Music Prize for his album, Mattson played an astounding 160 shows last year across the country, including dates with the Irish indie-star Hozier. If his acclaim wasn’t enough for you, it’s no surprise that the music he and his band have produced is really, really good.

Drawing from influences such as Elliot Smith and Wilco, the uniqueness of Mattson’s voice combined with serene textures produced by the band makes for an undeniably refreshing take on the alternative-folk genre.
