As game five of the American League Division Series approached its critical seventh inning on Wednesday night, the Blue Jays were tied with the Rangers at three runs each. As José Bautista stepped up to the plate, 9-year-old Oscar Wood, standing with his family in the 500 level, did too.
Wood’s swing was almost perfectly timed with Bautista’s — the ball soared away into the bleachers and the Rogers Centre exploded, leaving an ecstatic Wood jumping up and down and cheering for his hero in a video that has since gone viral.
The adorable video of Wood sporting a faux Bautista beard was posted to Twitter by his father minutes after the hit, and spread on social media faster than Bautista’s home run ball itself. Watch the video below.
